Youth Volunteerism

Each year the GBL Foundation promotes various volunteer activities throughout Southeast Kansas. From a list of applicants these worthwhile projects were selected.

  • Homer Cole Community Center (Pittsburg) will have “Face Timing the Grand Kids” during regular meetings with the help of volunteer teens, the new IPAD Pro, and a face-time schedule of the senior citizens with their grandchildren.

  • Southeast Kansas Humane Society (Pittsburg) will host an open house with educational sessions to train volunteers on dog and cat foster pet care.

  • Special Olympics Kansas, Inc. at Holiday Lanes in Pittsburg will have a bowling extravaganza for its individuals in hopes of encouraging volunteerism mixed with fun, food and friendship.

  • The Labette County Fair Association and Boy Scout Troop #10 will have a 5 night cleaning session of the fairgrounds to prepare for their county fair in July 2020.

  • Oswego Junior and Senior High School are having their yearly Community Clean-Up Day where students perform a variety of tasks (paint, plant, build, clean) to improve the community’s appearance and set a good example of volunteerism.

  • Resist Tobacco Chapter of Humboldt High School is hosting Operation Tobacco-Free Parks Cigarette Butt Cleanup at all parks in Humboldt to not only cleanup the area, but to teach the ill effects of smoking.

  • The Cherry Street Youth Center members in Chanute, will be volunteering at their local animal shelter with cleaning and caring for the animals.

  • Parsons Recreation Commission will host a “Cleaning Day at Winway” to prepare the summer ball fields at Marvel Park.

We are looking forward to the Fall this year with high hopes to get our 5K Run, Friendship Walk, and Kid Fest going with legendary Coach Larry Garman as our honorary event starter.
